A – The Here I Am App works with all types of mobile phones with Android or IOS – new or older versions alike.
A – No, the Here I Am App does not currently work as a direct link to emergency numbers. It is meant to send messages to friends and relatives with the sender’s details including location, notifying them that the sender is facing some type of emergency.
A – No, currently 9-1-1 will not be notified when an emergency message is sent. The Here I Am App is currently in talks with emergency services to integrate the Here I Am App with 9-1-1 and EMS systems, but that function is currently not available.
The idea is that the person(s) receiving the message is to call their local 911 or EMS services on behalf of the person in need. As the person in need may be not in the same 911 or EMS service area as the person(s) receiving the message, by giving the 911 operator the person in need’s exact GPS location, the local 911 operator will be able to connect the person calling on behalf of the person in need with a 911 service local to where the person in need is located.
We are currently in talks with Canadian security services which oversee emergency networks in Canada and will release an updated version of the App once access to the 9-1-1 and/or EMS services is available.
Once the 9-1-1 and EMS services in the USA allow text messaging through their systems the Here I Am App will integrate with American 9-1-1 and EMS services as well.
Please note that there may be some counties within states in the United States of America which may have integrated SMS services now. If that is the case, make one of your three contacts 9-1-1.
A – Yes. We recommend you change it often, especially if you’re an outdoor adventurer or frequent traveler. Changing your message to let people know that you’re on holiday at a specific resort or park or forest will let your contacts know that your current circumstance has changed. For Example: I am hiking in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Please send help.
A – Yes, the Here I Am App can be used anywhere in the world where cell phone service is available. The GPS will pick-up the sender’s precise location and send out the message with all details mentioned in the App.
A – No, the Here I Am App does not need data activated on the phone. The Here I Am App will only use text message (SMS) technology to send out an emergency message.
A – No, the Here I Am App works with an active cellular phone number to send out text messages. Tablets may have a SIM card but they don’t have a mobile phone number to send out messages. Laptops also do not have a mobile phone number, therefore the App will not work on a Laptop either.
A – No. You do not need to have a data plan on your phone in order to download the app. But you must have access to Wi-Fi internet in order to download the app as the Google Play Store and the Apple Store are web based. Be sure to turn on the Wi-Fi settings in your phone (found in the settings icon on your phone). Once finding a spot with Wi-Fi access, you’ll be able to download the app. After downloading the app and setting it up on your phone, you’ll be able to turn off the Wi-Fi in your phone’s Settings icon.
A – Yes, the sender can add medical information, health conditions, and their family doctor contact info and related other information during the setup process.
A – Yes, the recipient of an emergency message can reply via text or call the person who sent the emergency message.
A – No, the recipient does not have to have the Here I Am App installed on their phone. They will receive messages through the regular SMS App on their phone.
A – Yes, the Here I Am App is designed with seniors in mind. But youth, children and people of all ages can use the Here I Am App with ease.
A – Yes indeed, the Here I Am App will be very helpful for those with Autism, Alzheimer’s and Dementia. If the person is capable of using a mobile phone, then they can easily run the Here I Am app.
A – No, none of the messages, phone numbers or GPS location is saved anywhere. It is only being sent from the Here I Am App to the smartphone of the recipient. We do not even request your email address at time of installation.
A – No, the Here I Am App does not run in the background when not in use, therefore it will not use your phone’s resources or battery at all. It only activates the sender’s GPS location when activated so that it can send out the message with precise information of GPS coordinates in time of an emergency.
A – No, the Here I Am App does not track users. However, when the person receives the emergency message from the sender, upon opening the Here I Am App message the sender’s GPS location will be displayed so that the receiver can be advised of and react to the right coordinates of the sender’s location.
A – No, the App does not have any tracking, spam or malware. The App accesses your phone contacts only to add in the people you want to send the text message to.
A – No, the Here I Am App works independently on each device and developers or employees cannot see the messages. The information is simply routed from one phone to one or three phones upon execution of the App’s “Send” button.
A – No, we do not store or save anything on the Cloud at all. All information goes directly from the sender’s phone to the receiver’s phone.
