HOW TO SETUP & USE HERE I AM APP
Install the App from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. The App will ask you:
Allow Here I Am to access this device location? Press Allow
Allow Here I Am to access your contacts? Press Allow
Allow Here I Am to send and view SMS messages?
Press Allow
This will take you to Setup Screen and press SETUP NOW.
You will now be taken to the personal information screen.
Fill in as much personal information as you want.
However, we recommend filling in all of the information requested by the App so that in your time of need, those receiving your emergency message will have all the information they need to know about you.
When it comes to entering your emergency message, click here to see samples of emergency messages.
Press Save and continue to the next screen. (Your phone’s GPS will automatically find your location). Press OK to continue.
The Message Preferences screen should appear.
This screen will show you your current Latitude and Longitude.
Choose up to three emergency contacts (but you must have at least one contact) then press the symbol/icon.
If you do not have access to the 9-1-1 system, but you do have access to a local EMS service, you should enter your local EMS emergency service number into the App as one of your contacts. Please be advised that there are counties in the United States that have 9-1-1 and EMS services that currently do accept emergency text messaging. To be sure if your county’s 9-1-1 or EMS service does accept an emergency message through text, please call your police or EMS’s LOCAL phone number (DO NOT CALL 9-1-1 OR THE EMS EMERGENCY NUMBER) to enquire if they allow text messaging to 9-1-1 or the EMS emergency number.
Once you have added your contacts, press SAVE
The App is Now LIVE and you can SEND HELP MESSAGE NOW
Recommended: We recommend first, that a test message be sent to your emergency contact(s).
However, prior to sending the test message to your chosen emergency contact(s), you should notify them that you have chosen them to be a contact during your time of emergency. We suggest you notify them initially via phone call or text.
Once your contact(s) have received the test message, have them confirm with you that they received your “Send Help Now” test message by either contacting them or having them contact you. You can now close the App.
The App is now LIVE in case of an actual emergency.
Note: In the event you send a Here I Am App emergency message, tell your contacts to call you on your phone/mobile first. If you don’t respond, then tell your contacts to call 9-1-1 on your behalf providing 9-1-1 or EMS Services with your GPS coordinates.
Apple Users
Due to Apple’s Privacy Policy, iPhone users need to press Send message in Messages App in order to send the emergency message to one (or more) contacts.
